Thoughts on culture

A large part of Hipster culture has been focused on bikes as they are Alternative, customizable, counter-culture (at least in the States), and give one an instant jolt of self-righteousness. (Just to be clear, I don’t have a problem with any of these aspects or hipster culture itself, as most of my friends in recent years are some form of Hipster. I just delight in that for once I am familiar enough with a trend to understand it.) My interest in hipsterdom has subsided recently since I moved away from my college town and since my roommate is no longer dating bike messenger, but today I had a ground-breaking thought: will hipster/bike culture bring manpri’s to the public? I forgot that they used to be called pedal pushers. Hey older friends, did men ever wear this fashion or were they just for women? …I feel a gender revolution coming on.
An aside: How serious am I about hipsters being my friends in Shepherdstown? I searched for “shepherdstown hipster” and on the first page this picture of homemade mustaches popped up from my friend Pang’s blog. Furthermore, her blog’s banner, that includes an owl, was done by some of my other trendy hipster artist friends.
PS Writing this made me kind of miss all those crazy kids back in West Virginia.

Notice the fixed gears in the picture. Disgusting.
What’s so bad about that? As someone who is terrible on a bike, I think simplifying the process looks kind of appealing.
As a current West Virginian, I can honestly say, West Virginians are crazy wonderful folk, worthy of your fond reminiscings.
